History behind the Post Name.

Joel R. Conklin Memorial Post

Explorer Post #208 is named the Joel R. Conklin Memorial Post in memory of Hastings Police Officer Joel Conklin, who was killed October 9, 1993 while responding to a domestic violence call.

In 1998 Deb Conklin, Joel's wife, donated $1000 to the post for the purchase of patches and badges to outfit the newly reformed post.

Deb said that she felt the Explorer program is important, as it gives youth who are interested in law enforcement a chance to explore the career at an early age.  She said that Joel had wanted to be a police officer since he was in high school, and hopes that the post will help other young people's dreams of a career in law enforcement come true.  Deb and Joel's daughter, Tracy, was an Explorer while in high school.

The post advisors decided to name the post the "Joel Conklin Memorial Post" in memory of Joel and to thank Deb for her donation.  The advisors and members of the Joel Conklin Memorial Post, Law Enforcement Explorer Post #208 wish to thank Deb for her generous contribution and support of the program.
